Baste. Thanksgiving. Ever.
Just a little notice: no fowl language will be used in this post. Okay, all puns aside, this weekend exceeded my imagination. I thought it would be a fun but adventure-less weekend; I should know by now that never happens.
My friend, Monica came up from Daejeon and dropped her belongings at my apartment since she was staying the weekend. We took the metro over to Hapjeong Station and met up with Lily at Cafe Birkin. We caught up and then walked the short distance to the actual scheduled event that we had planned for the day; afternoon tea.
The tea place we chose is called Good Afternoon. Previously, Lily and I had tried the afternoon tea at their other branch in Yongsan-gu. Booking is available on Naver, which is fairly easy to navigate. We spent a whole two hours there going through all three tiers of the desserts. They were amazing and the tea was divine. A sugar addict’s dream. For us non-sugar people, it was a stomach nightmare. I had a stomachache into the next day. Overall, a very fun experience.
To work off some of the effects of the sugar, we rode the subway over to Sky Park (하늘공원). On the climb up the winding stairs, Monica’s shoe fell apart and she spent the whole time walking around the park without the hard sole on the bottom. We were able to catch the last remnants of the sunset as we ran around the park trying to take photos. Stunning and freezing cold.
We were hungry and Monica needed new shoes so we took the bus over to Hongdae. At this time, my friend messaged me saying our other mutual friends and he were on there way to that area, as well. We made plans to meet up later. Monica successfully found a pair of shoes, and she decided she wanted to get some new piercings. We went over to Nana Piercing, where she got her piercings and I got some of my piercings changed. We were starving at this point, so we stopped in at an udon restaurant for some noodles.
We met up with our group of friends and went to Seoul Pub after unsuccessfully trying to find other places to go to; it was so busy that night. We had some drinks and danced to the music. Around midnight we parted ways with the others while Lily decided to also spend the night at my place. There were no taxis again this time and we had no way to get home. We decided to rent the shared bikes on the side of the road and quickly downloaded the app and scanned the bikes. We rode for about fifty minutes back to my apartment. An unexpected adventure pedaling up some steep hills and on uneven sidewalks. Back at my apartment we made some hot tea to warm up again. Quite an interesting night!
The next morning, we went to Summer Lane in Hannam-dong for brunch. There was a line so we had to wait. While we waited, we went to the popup store for Nonfiction; a lotion and bath store. The scents were so tempting but the prices were quite expensive. Plus here are some random photos of the remaining fall leaves.
Finally, we were called in. The place was so cozy warm with some cute Santa hat-wearing koala bears, a Santa, and a Christmas tree. The food was mouthwateringly delicious. We ordered the bacon waffle eggs benedict, croissant French toast, and the Aussie meat pie.
After all the delicious food, we sat down for a drink at Komune. I regrettably ordered a cold drink without thinking about how cold it was outside.
Our Friendsgiving was at 4 PM, so I rushed to We Bake Love for some of their cookies. I bought the pumpkin pie, churros, mint choco, macadamia white choco, chocolate chip, and matcha cookies.
The Friendsgiving party was so fun. We ate a bunch of snacks and ordered duck for dinner. Overall, it was a very fun party. Chris and Monica even did some magic tricks. Now, I need a week to recover from all the energy spent this weekend.
