Rockaway Beach Getaway

Our cousins from Ireland were visiting us for about a week, so we decided to spend some of that time at the beach. We rented out a beach house in Rockaway and spent a few days there relaxing and exploring some of the surrounding areas.

The beach house is the nicest I’ve stayed in so far. So many ocean themed decorations and an impressive amount of rooms. There was a huge game room with a bar located on the second room, too. The only downside was that there were only two bathrooms for ten people.

We rented surf boards and wetsuits from a surf shop in a nearby city. So, we spent two of the days surfing in the waves. The wetsuits were very effective in keeping out the cold. It was a lot of fun surfing but putting on and taking off the wetsuit was a whole ordeal.

We spent one afternoon in Cannon Beach popping into stores along the main road. There was one really awesome shop with lots of furniture and decor in many different rooms. We bought some salt water taffy and then walked along the beach and viewed Haystack Rock.

The next morning, we took our cousins to view the tide pools at the Three Graces. We saw a lot of crabs, starfish, and barnacles. The only problem was the Canada Geese who had taken over the area and wouldn’t stop honking. Not the peaceful walk that I had imagined.

After building up an appetite we had lunch at The Fish Peddler. I had a delicious seafood stew and some oyster shooters. After, we went to Tillamook Cheese Factory and toured the place. For dessert, we ordered some ice cream. They offer ice cream flights for those who want to try out more of their flavors.

Our last evening was spent on the beach. My dad had purchased some clams and oysters that were absolutely fantastic. My siblings dug out a sand bench and fire pit and we spent the evening in front of a fire drinking and eating s’mores. The weather was cooperative and we had the best sunset of the trip that night. What a way to end our trip.
