Museum Visits & Day Trips

It has been forever since I last posted. Since I have some free time now, I will start updating my blog again! I’m super excited to share what has happened in the past few months. So, here it is. Keep reading to find out.

MMCA

My friend informed me about the Ai Wei Wei exhibition going on at MMCA. So, of course, I had to go. There were several exhibitions going on at the same time, so we just strolled around the museum admiring everything. There was a digital exhibition an exhibition on Freedom Village (it’s located in the DMZ zone), Ai Wei Wei’s exhibition with photographs and a huge hanging burial suit, and so on.

The digital exhibition was fascinating because it was portraying how we are entrapped by technology.

Ai Wei Wei’s exhibition was captivating with the footage from refugee camps, wallpaper that depicted how we are under surveillance constantly, and sculptures and photographs that gives the finger to symbols of authority.

AWA

One of the YouTubers I follow posted about this exhibition going on at one of the Ground Seesaw locations. Before we went to the exhibition, my friends and I met up and wanted to go for brunch at a popular place called Maple Top. The list was of teams ahead of us was long, so we decided to wait it out at a cafe in the same building. We sat there for hours just chatting until our number was called. The brunch items were delicious. I think it took so long because the restaurant offers bottomless boozy options for a limited amount of time.

AWA stands for Accidentally Wes Anderson. The exhibition displays many photographs from people who shot their photographs in the style of Wes Anderson. Honestly, I didn’t expect much, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. It was also bigger than I thought it was going to be.

While we were walking through the rooms, my friend grabbed the shoulder of some woman who he thought was me, but turned out to be some Korean woman. I was laughing so much when he told me what had happened.

Paju

For a little escape from Seoul for the weekend, I went to Paju; a city outside of Seoul. Paju seems to be the home of huge cafes, so my goal for the day was to visit a few. The first place I went was Malddong Donut, which is a huge donut cafe. My friend is a huge fan of donuts so he was super excited to visit. We ordered several donuts (Coca Cola, banana, corn flakes, injeolmi, and Hawaiian) and tried all of them. They were tasty.

After all that sugar we wanted some real food so we walked the short distance to a cafe called Dirty Trunk. This cafe was huge and had so many desserts, food, and drinks to choose from. Honestly, I ordered such a huge meal and couldn’t finish it.

When we got back to Seoul, we took a bus to Hongdae to walk around. We went into a super fancy noraebang ($20/hour) which was separated by floor (two floors for women, one floor for men). It was a cool experience since you had to take off your shoes in the entrance of your room before sitting on the couches.

Incheon

My friends and I, finally, met up in Incheon after weeks of saying we would and then cancelling. Sadly, at the last moment one of my friends got in a car accident and had to stay at the hospital, so he couldn’t join us (btw he’s fine).

We all met in Incheon and then my friend drove us to a small beach close to the airport. It was calm but the air quality was certainly not at its best. After loitering along the oceanside, we drove a short distance to eat a delicious meal. It was filling indeed. We went to the beach that was located right outside the restaurant and strolled there for a while, and then headed to our last stop for the day; a cafe. Truly a fun, little adventure.

Apgujeong Rodeo

I wanted to explore this area more before I left, so I invited Lily along to walk around. The area is known for having lots of the high-end stores lining the one street. Along with Gucci, Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, etc. SM Entertainment (one of the top Kpop agencies) is located here. We walked around looking at all the buildings. Seeing the fancily dressed doormen just waiting to usher customers in, made me feel poor lol.

While I was walking down one of the streets, I came across this cafe that had these croissants hanging as ornaments from this tree!

Of course, it’s not a day without a cafe. We decided on 79 Founyard. I loved the design inside; it reminded me of a country style with pictures of geese, Junie B. Jones’ books, and canned fruit cans decorating the place. We ordered some carrot cake and Victoria sponge cake.
