Continuing the Journey in Interlaken
This must be the time that all the schools are on trips, because there were so many students in my hostel in Luzern. They were extremely loud and were blasting music and doing chants early in the morning. What a way to wake up! To continue my Switzerland trip, I slept in a bit and then took the train for about two hours to Interlaken Ost. The train ride was picturesque with views of towering mountains, crystal clear blue water, and towns nestled in valleys.
I checked into my hotel and my hotel room had an amazing view of the mountains. It was the epitome of “room with a view.” While I was waiting for the bus to Iseltwald, I walked alongside the river that was across the road from my hotel. The water was so blue!
The hotels and hostels would give me a free transportation paper that I could use while I was staying there. Some applied only to certain zones within the city. I caught the bus over to Iseltwald. Fun fact: Iseltwald is well-known for a certain scene in the famous K-drama “Crash Landing on You”. I bought a ferry ticket at the dock, but was so confused by the schedule they had posted that I just hoped that I wouldn’t miss the ferry. It was starting to drizzle but I didn’t let that deter me from walking around the small town. It was very, very quiet and I felt myself enjoying the peace and quiet.
One of the photos I have included is of a house that had tiny little faces painted onto the wood. I thought it was super pretty and something that I almost overlooked except that I saw a couple taking photos of the house.
The way back on the ferry, it was pouring rain but I still sat outside under the canopy. The water and mountains were something straight out of a painting. The ferry back took almost an hour since it made several stops along the way.
The next morning, I woke up to it actually being sunny so I hurried and took the train to Lauterbrunnen before the weather turned bad. I had been looking forward to this town the most during my Switzerland trip. When I got to Lauterbrunnen, I just walked around with no special plan. I visited one of the many waterfalls and walked along some roads in the town. I was looking for a certain spot and I happened to find it on Google Maps. It was a hard climb in the humid heat. However, the view was worth it and there wasn’t anyone else around. I happened to see some paragliders flying around in the valley. I was going to climb all the way to the top to another little town called Wengen, but I was too tired and I headed back down the mountain. Instead, I decided to take the train for an hour to Lungern, which I had seen on the train ride from Luzern to Interlaken.
I had a minor issue when my data decided to run out without warning me, so for the rest of the day I had no way to navigate. On the train, the ticket lady came to check my ticket but it wouldn’t load, but thankfully she allowed me to hotspot my phone and I was able to show her the QR code. I was relieved that I knew where I was going and how to get back. When I arrived in Lungern, I just bought a ticket at the ticket machine since I couldn’t access the app on my phone.
I wandered along the lake for a few hours, and was considering going to another filming location for “Crash Landing on You,” but it was quite far and there was no one around and the weather was starting to look gloomy. I turned around at just the right time, because when I was almost to the train station it started downpouring.
That day was kinda chaotic, but a fun adventure. Switzerland is stunning with all the wildflowers everywhere and a lot of people seem to have beautiful gardens here. Sadly, tomorrow (June 2) I am leaving to go to Geneva. There is so much to do in and around Interlaken, and I barely touched the surface. I would love to come back soon and explore some of the other places and sights this area has to offer.
