3 Day Trip to Kyoto, Japan
In addition to Tokyo, I also decided to go to Kyoto to see some of the famous sights there. I had a lovely bullet train ride to Kyoto where I got to see more of Japan.
The first day there I explored the Gion district near the river. It was so peaceful in the afternoon. I stopped briefly at Yasaka Shrine, and I also went to Hanamikoji Street where the buildings are designed in the traditional Japanese style. There was matcha everything being sold, so of course I had to buy a matcha-flavored ice cream.
The second day I went to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and the downtown area around it. The forest was absolutely breathtaking, and it was even better because I arrived early in the morning, so it wasn't crowded with tourists.
I made a short stop at Kinkakuji Temple, but it was so crowded and hot that I zipped in and then out really quickly.
The next day, I got up early to go see Fushimi Inari Taisha. I was mindblown by how pretty it was there. I had planned to hike all the way to the top of the mountain, but changed my mind when it was so humid and I got a million bug bites.
I went to Nijo Castle and sadly the main part was under construction. However, it was still a really lovely place to stroll around.
The weather was so humid, but I powered on to see Yasaka Pagoda in the evening. I walked along Sannen-zaka Ninen-zaka historical streets and bought some cute souvenirs. In the end, I stumbled across Kodaiji Temple that was super peaceful and quiet.
I ended the long day with a lovely meal near my hostel. I have loved being in Japan because I've been able to eat so much seafood, sushi, sashimi, and ramen.
I can't wait for my next trip to Japan. I would love to explore some new places and visit with friends again.
